Why I sold WFReview, The Best Damn Wordpress Review Plugin

Submitted by Nick on May 12, 2009 – 6:38 amNo Comment

First, a little backstory on why WFReview even exists. Back in August 2008, I got into a pissing match with a guy named Dan on WickedFire.com. He had a simplistic plugin for wordpress that allowed you to add Amazon.com style rating stars to Wordpress posts. This would be pretty pimp for guys offering affiliate offer reviews, local niche directories, or a product directory. The problem was he was gouging the fuck out of people and had a (IMHO) terrible attitude. He was one of those programmers who had the mentality of “I’m a leet programmer and no one else can duplicate me”. That obviously rubbed the Big Bad Wolf the wrong way and I called him out on it. Lots of people laughed and complained and sniped, but in December 08, I came out with WFReview to compete with Dan’s plugin.

Bottom line is mine completely owned Dan’s. My plugin was faster, had a lot more features, and had awesome support. Did I mention is was damn near bug-free right out the gate?

So I spent the first quarter of 09 and most of the 2nd supporting clients and helping them earn. I have 6 customers who have profited over $50K each so far with their local niche directories or BizOp review sites. I’m damn proud of the plugin and the customers who are successfully utilizing it.

So why in the world would I want to sell?

Bottom line is as I evolve in this business, I learn more and more strategies that make me a lot of money.  At the current time, it’s simply not feasible for me to man the good ship WFReview AND drive my Internet marketing business.

Near the end of April, I placed the site on Sitepoint in the hopes someone qualified would pick it up. I would not sell to a noob, to a non-technical person, or to someone who wouldn’t continue to develop the product.  I’m happy to say a good guy from Northern California has purchased the plugin.  He owns a web hosting business and is very capable of supporting WFReview.

The site will transition in the next 5 days and after that, Raphael will have 100% control of WFReview.

I will post a more formal announcement later in the week, but for now, know that your existing license will not change, you will still have full access to the member site and your software will continue to work well as it always has.
